Frequently Asked Questions
Can you promise me a drug free birth?
No! No one can promise you that! However, it is entirely possible to have a pain free, natural birth with hypnobirthing. Once you understand the causes of pain in labour — and what you can do to avoid it — with guided practice and your birth and labour toolkit, you are much more likely to achieve the birth experience you want.
Will I be Hypnotised?
No! Hypnobirthing stems from hypnotherapy and works by utilising the power of the mind to relax the body. Whilst some mothers are able to achieve a deep state of relaxation during birth, this is quite different from the kind of stage hypnosis you are more likely to be familiar with that usually happens in a stage show etc.
I’m not having a homebirth, I’m having my baby in hospital. Can I still use this?
Yes, of course! It doesn’t matter whether you choose to give birth at home, in a midwife led unit, in a hospital, induction, spontaneous, caesarean birth or even in the back of your car! Hypnobirthing will help you to remain calm and in control, wherever you give birth.
I’ve been told my baby is Breech, back to back, higher or smaller in weight, can I still use this?
Yes, of course! Hypnobirthing is for everyone and for all births!
Do I need to be in a couple to book this private course?
No! You are welcome to book if you aren’t in a couple or your partner doesn’t want to attend. A birth partner can be anyone as long as they make you feel safe and are a good advocate for you. We allow the course to be delivered for you and up to two birth partner(s) This could be your partner, husband, mother, sister, friend, anyone! Whilst most birth partners also attend the course (and find it incredibly useful) it is perfectly acceptable to come alone should your circumstances not allow for this
When is the best time for me to take part in the course?
You are welcome to attend a course at any time during your pregnancy. Most expectant parents attend somewhere between 20 and 35 weeks, I would advise starting earlier rather than later so that you can enjoy the benefits of hypnobirthing during your pregnancy and have time to practise the techniques as well as at the birth. The practice you do around the course is also what will help you to achieve a deep sense of calm and relaxation during birth.
